BAE award contract for new Self Protection Combat Roller

BAE award contract for new Self Protection Combat Roller

Pearson Engineering will supply eight of the company’s latest roller products, the Self Protection Combat Roller, to BAE Systems for use by the Norwegian Army. The contract was signed at an open day hosted by Pearson Engineering whereby key suppliers and current project partners were invited to celebrate the company’s recent success.

The Self Protection Combat Roller offers Counter-Mine and Counter-IED capability and has been developed to meet the demands of modern tracked vehicles using experience gained from the development of the company’s existing roller products.

The system, available for Heavy and Medium tracked vehicles, is designed to exert pressure onto the ground ahead of the vehicle tracks to target pressure activated explosive devices and stows neatly to minimise impact on vehicle capability and mobility when the roller is not in use.

BAE Systems will supply 16 Engineer variant CV90s to the Norwegian Army and are working with Pearson Engineering to incorporate eight Self Protection Combat Rollers. The scope of the contract also includes eight adaptor systems which will allow the Norwegian Army to fit Surface Mine Ploughs, formally supplied by Pearson Engineering for the M113 vehicle, to the updated CV90s. The company’s Surface Mine Plough is designed to clear surface laid mines and ordnance from roads, tracks and rough terrain for following vehicles.

A common interface which allows Front End Equipment such as the Self Protection Combat Roller and Surface Mine Plough to be quickly and easily interchanged and jettisoned will also be supplied.

Project Manager, Steve Fenton said ‘This is a great opportunity to introduce the Self Protection Combat Roller to the CV90 and to highlight the capability Pearson Engineering can offer for medium tracked vehicles. We have a strong relationship with BAE Systems and I am looking forward to working closely with the team in Sweden to realise the project.’

Pearson Engineering supplies Counter-IED, Counter-Mine, Combat Earth Moving and Assault Bridging vehicle attachments to the world’s armed forces.
