Army Benevolent Fund welcomes support from Pearson Engineering
Pearson Engineering has been named an official corporate member of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), the Army's national charity, as the UK celebrates Armed Forces Week 2026 (22 – 28 June).
As a Gold Award holder under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme for the Armed Forces Covenant, Pearson Engineering employs a significant number of military veterans, reservists and ex‑forces personnel across its 400+ strong workforce.
This partnership represents a natural evolution for the company, scaling its long-established military partnership portfolio which includes monetary and personnel backing for programmes including the Newcastle Rugby Foundation’s Veterans Fund, the North East Armed Forces Business Forum, and regional Cadet and Officer Training Corps.
The relationship was formalised following a recent visit by the ABF to the organisation’s historic Armstrong Works site. During the visit, the charity’s Chief Executive, Major General Tim Hyams CB OBE, addressed personnel from Pearson Engineering and its sister company, Responsive Engineering, highlighting the importance of corporate partnerships in helping to fund the charity’s vital work.
Last year, the ABF supported over 80,000 people in 52 countries, with beneficiaries ranging from three years old to 105. It supports the Army family through life’s challenges, including bereavement, injury, returning to work, elderly care and more.
Major General Tim Hyams said: “We are delighted that Pearson Engineering has chosen to support the Army Benevolent Fund and the Army family. This valuable partnership will enable us to provide essential support for soldiers, former soldiers, and their families, affording them the opportunity to avoid hardship and live with independence and dignity.”
Ian Bell, CEO of Pearson Engineering, added: “Our team at Armstrong Works has a profound connection to the military, from the life-saving equipment we manufacture to the high number of ex-Forces personnel within our workforce. Hearing Major General Hyams speak passionately about the Army Benevolent Fund’s welfare work reinforces our duty to support the community. We are proud to launch this corporate partnership during Armed Forces Week, standing alongside the national charity that protects those who have served.”
