Straight Obstacle Blade

The Straight Obstacle Blade (SOB) is a light weight Combat Dozer Blade which is strong and robust and enables vehicles to rapidly clear rubble and other obstacles, creating a clear route for following operations.

The product is battle proven and is in service with, amongst others, the U.S. Army and the Spanish Army.

The SOB is compact and is designed to retain the gravity close to the vehicle structure. Made of high tensile low carbon steel, the SOB is capable of withstanding the loads generated during light dozing tasks. An extensions fitted to the top of the blade prevents soil from spilling over and accumulating on the vehicle.

The SOB can be fitted using a Pearson Engineering interface kit which allows the task equipment to be quickly and easily interchanged and jettisoned increasing the operational capability of the host vehicle.

Key Features:
  • Single pass cutting depth of 100 mm and a cutting width of 3,000 mm.
  • Compact design with a centre of gravity near the vehicle to ensure minimum effect on mobility
  • Damping cylinders protect the attachment and vehicle against excessive impact loads
Operation and Control

A SOB has three operating positions; stowed for cross-country travel, deployed for earthmoving operations and float for ground levelling and back-blading operations.  A hydraulic lift cylinder stows and deploys the blade.

Hydraulic power is provided by an in-built electrohydraulic power system if a SOB is fitted directly to a vehicle, or from an on-board hydraulic system that can be provided as part of a Pearson Engineering Common Interface System.

A SOB is controlled from a Mission Equipment Control Unit (MECU) mounted within easy reach of the vehicle driver.

Modular

The blade is also fitted with hardened steel cutting edges which are secured with special countersunk head bolts and self-locking nuts.

Damping cylinders absorb excess blade impact loads in order to prevent damaging loads being transmitted into the vehicle hull.

A SOB can be rapidly attached to, or detached from, the vehicle and interchanged with other Special to Role equipment.

A purpose built Transportation Pallet facilitates both storage and transport and is capable of fitting into either an ISO container or onto a DROPS pallet.
