Pearson Engineering Sponsor Innovation Event for Royal Engineers Troop Commanders’ Course

Following the success of previous events in 2017 and Pearson Engineering’s continuing engagement with the British Army, a small team from Pearson Engineering sponsored an Innovation Event at the Royal Engineers Troop Commanders’ Course in Gibraltar Barracks, Minley.

The Pearson Team was made up of Richard Beatson (Business Development Director), Nick Weller (Business Development Manager) & Alastair Conn (Design Engineer).

Sixty young officers were split into 6 syndicates and were challenged to create a solution to a non-lethal area denial scenario. Encouraged to think creatively but remaining within the laws of physics, each team put forward their proposal for peer review. Ideas included a smart motorway with alligator’s teeth device, foam filled dispensers and a vehicle checkpoint designed to lift the threat vehicle’s wheels or tracks off the road.

The winning solution went to the syndicate who proposed a “sleeping policeman” with a rapid drying epoxy resin mix that sprayed the vehicle running gear which bonded and stopped the vehicle. Another syndicate were awarded for having the most creative solution with their electromagnetic track approach.

Following the challenge, Pearson Engineering delivered a presentation on their approach to Innovation as well as outlining our current Research and Development projects; one of which was an intelligent area denial device (IADD).

Business Development Manager, Mr Nick Weller commented: “It was a pleasure to sponsor and attend this year’s Royal Engineers Troop Commanders Course. The officers showed great determination, imagination and enthusiasm for the challenge. We look forward to running similar events in the future.”
