The Head of Security will direct the development, implementation and monitoring of an effective strategy to mitigate risk, protect our employees and assets, and maintain continuity of operations.
The Head of Security will be expected to represent the company and liaise with police, security agencies, relevant government authorities and other defence industry partners, and act as the subject matter expert on all security related matters at Armstrong Works.
The role will be responsible for establishing policies and standards affecting the security of staff (including training), the facility and classified data/assets held by the company.
The Head of Security will also work collaboratively with our commercial specialists, who hold responsibility for our security clearances and contractual security commitments.
The incumbent will ensure security protocols and mechanisms are in place to address each possible threat, its context and environment. The Head of Security provides direction and technical support in developing and maintaining context specific security plans.
This role will be based at our Newcastle site, but occasional UK and international travel will be required.
The onsite security team currently consists of 12 employees.
Serve as the primary focal point for security for the Armstrong Works site and all businesses working on site.
Support the leadership of the company, ensuring that security is managed appropriately across all activities.
As part of the Senior Leadership Team Security working group, provide reports and updates on security matters.
Manage the onsite security team, optimising structure, working pattern and establish clear roles and responsibilities to appropriately deliver operational security.
Ensure the security team have appropriate training to deal with security procedures and risks.
Identify and manage 3rd party security partners where required and appropriate.
Technical support will include the following:
security/risk assessments;
scenario planning, security plan development;
crisis/contingency planning; and
other security-related functions.
Develop and update security plans, business continuity plans and crisis management plans, and policies and procedures, in accordance with best practices and ensure their implementation.
Ensuring security equipment and infrastructure is effective and functioning to mitigate and manage risk.
Investigate incidents and security breaches to ensure continuous improvement.
Develop a culture of security management for the organisation, including all associated policies, processes and tools. Ensuring that these are best in class.
Provide advice and counsel on matters relating to staff security and property safety;
Liaise with the police and other government agencies to ensure awareness of threat, risk and response scenarios.
Represent the company at security related meetings and conferences.
Establish and manage risk registers for the site and specific operations.
Conduct training needs assessments with key stakeholders resulting in increased safety, security and risk management capacity.
Monitor security conditions and liaise and coordinate with external agencies – police, MoD, NPoCC, customers, private security contractors etc.
Prioritising pro-active security procedures which are a deterrent to harmful activity
Support and advise the organisation’s critical incident management.
Lead development of crisis management policies and manage the critical incident process, as part of the crisis management working group.
Provide leadership and motivation to security staff and foster teamwork, ensuring all activities are in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Establish and build effective working relationships across the organisation and with selected external partners.
Keep up to date with industry trends and developments.
Review security and security assistance provision to assure best value for money.
Any other work assigned by your line manager.
