Graduate Software Engineer (x2)

Pearson Engineering is pleased to open two wide-ranging and challenging engineering internships to enthusiastic technical innovators.

Duration: 6 months with the possibility of becoming permanent

Start Date: October/November 2020

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: £20,000 pro rata

Background: We are looking for self-directed learners and self-motivated individuals who show potential to grow, learn and develop. You should aim to demonstrate a can-do, proactive attitude and a genuine interest and desire to learn more about our business and industry.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in the design, development, and testing of a product / technology working with the product design team, and / or internal business system improvements working with our IT manager and department managers.

Our programmes require us to push our capabilities and technologies to the limit of what is achievable today. This raises many challenges for our products as they must ultimately meet both our customer’s stringent requirements and bring leading edge performance to give competitive advantage.

You will love programming and have outstanding technical skills, as well as be eager to work in a growing business environment, surrounded by great people. You will be comfortable with the unknown, relish a challenge, be eager to learn and keen to be an integral part of a brilliant team shaping the business.

You will keep up with the latest advancements in your field. You will have one ear to the ground in relation to libraries, frameworks and other services that could aid your working process and have had experience using a general-purpose language like Python, C++, or Java.  You will take pride in conceiving and building brilliant, scalable, and resilient software and also believe strongly in test driven development and continuous delivery.

You will seek learning opportunities to deepen your expertise or broaden your knowledge and be keen to learn from others.

Entry requirement:

  • Educated to degree level in a technical or scientific subject and obtained a minimum of a 2:1.
  • Programming experience in either C/C++, Java, Python or HTML / web application development
  • You class yourself as a technical innovator
  • Commercial acumen
  • Enthusiastic, have excellent problem-solving abilities and be keen to learn.
